About Charleston Preschool Playgroup
Charleston Preschool Playgroup was started in 1975 by Rosemary Stephen. This has been an asset not just to the Village Hall but to Charleston community as a whole. The Playgroup has progressed from strength to strength throughout the years; children that started with the Toddler group are still friends today well into their 30s and 40s. The Playgroup aimed to bring parents and children together, creating opportunities for play, learning, collaboration and care all under one roof. Charleston Preschool Playgroup follows the same curriculum and guidelines as a nursery, the only difference is there is a parent run committee whereby you can have as little or as much input into your child’s early years education as you wish. Our team are devoted to meeting every child’s rights and needs to the fullest. We have staff who are highly trained to support your child’s development in our very nurturing and inclusive setting. We encourage quality indoor and outdoor play as we are surrounded by a wealth of countryside. Our setting has a maximum capacity of 22 children. We take children between the ages of 2.5 years old to 5 years old. For children aged 3 years and older, funding is available for both part-time and full-time spaces via Angus Council. Our Playgroup’s four Values are Inclusion, Nurture, Quality and Well-being. This reflects the service we provide by: granting all children access to opportunities and support, ensuring children feel safe and secure whilst being cared for, guaranteeing children shall receive quality care and education, and promoting support and encouragement for all to create the best version of ourselves.

What Parents Say
Your happy children are our best reward.
"Charleston playgroup is AMAZING!!! I like playing in the big garden and the top garden - it has a mud kitchen! I like painting and reading and playing with the marbles."
"The nursery have excellent facilities both indoor and outdoor for the children to play and learn in. The staff are great and have really helped my daughter’s handwriting and number skills to improve, amongst other topics which are covered each term. I initially attended the Toddlers sessions with my daughter and now she goes to the playgroup which she loves."
"My son loves attending the playgroup every day. Whether it is making soup or going out in the local woods he is always having varied experiences. We really appreciate the staff and how much they love our child."
"Our wee one loves attending Charleston Preschool! She sees and gets to do so many different experiences. We really appreciate the work the staff put into making it such a friendly environment!"
"We were apprehensive at first to send our daughter to nursery as she was quite a shy little girl and would become easily upset if she was away from us for any period of time. However, within hours of starting her first day at the playgroup, the daughter we knew disappeared and was replaced with a confident, excited young girl.
Our daughter absolutely loves going to playgroup now; she marches straight in, hangs up her bag and wanders away to play with her friends without looking back. The nursery team are incredible with her; she has become very bonded with all 3 of them as they provide a kind, nurturing environment for her to learn and play."
